What Happens During a Telehealth Visit?

Your initial evaluation begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, daily activities, and goals. A virtual assessment may include observation of your posture, breathing, mobility, strength, balance, movement patterns, and core and pelvic-floor coordination.

Your individualized treatment plan may include:

  • Therapeutic exercises

  • Pelvic-floor and core coordination

  • Breathing and pressure-management strategies

  • Education about your symptoms

  • Bladder or bowel strategies

  • Movement and activity modifications

  • Self-treatment techniques

  • Guidance for returning to exercise

  • A personalized home exercise program

Telehealth allows your therapist to observe how you move in the environment where you complete your everyday activities. Exercises can be adapted to the space, furniture, and equipment you already have available.

Does Telehealth Include an Internal Examination?

Internal examinations are not performed during telehealth visits. An internal pelvic-floor examination is never automatic or required.

If an additional physical assessment or hands-on treatment may be beneficial, and you live within 30 minutes of ZIP code 27502, an in-home follow-up appointment can be discussed. You may decline or stop any examination or treatment at any time.

What Do I Need for My Appointment?

You will need:

  • A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone

  • A reliable internet connection

  • A private, safe area where you can move comfortably

  • Enough space for your therapist to observe basic movements

  • Wireless headphones are not required, but they can improve sound quality and privacy while allowing you to move or step away from the camera during your visit.

Exercise equipment is not required. If you have resistance bands, light weights, a yoga mat, pillows, or other equipment available, it may be incorporated into your treatment when appropriate.

Please sign in five to ten minutes early to make sure your camera, microphone, and internet connection are working.

Where Is Telehealth Available?

Telehealth appointments are currently available to patients who are physically located in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, or Florida at the time of their visit.

If you live in or plan to attend your appointment from another state, please reach out. I am open to expanding telehealth services and can discuss whether care may be available in your state.
