Adolescent and Pediatric Pelvic Health

Pelvic-health concerns can affect a child’s comfort, confidence, participation in school, sports, and everyday activities. Carolina Core Physical Therapy provides respectful, age-appropriate care for adolescents ages 10 and older, with an emphasis on education, healthy habits, movement, and practical strategies that can be used at home.

If your child is younger than 10, please contact us so we can discuss their needs and determine whether these services may be appropriate.

Concerns We Can Address

Physical therapy may help with urinary leakage, urgency, frequent urination, bedwetting, constipation, difficulty emptying the bowel, bowel leakage, abdominal or pelvic pain, and core weakness. Care may also support adolescents who experience symptoms during sports, exercise, school, or other daily activities.

Bladder and bowel concerns can be influenced by several factors, including toileting habits, muscle coordination, breathing, abdominal pressure, mobility, fluid intake, and daily routines. The assessment considers the whole child rather than focusing on one symptom or muscle group.

How Physical Therapy May Help

An individualized treatment plan may include education about bladder and bowel habits, toileting positions, breathing and relaxation strategies, core and pelvic-floor coordination, therapeutic exercise, movement activities, and strategies for managing symptoms at school, during sports, and at home.

Care is designed to be approachable and appropriate for the child’s age and comfort level. Parents or caregivers may participate in education and treatment planning while the adolescent is also encouraged to ask questions, understand their body, and build confidence managing their symptoms.

What to Expect

All new patients begin with a private telehealth evaluation. During this visit, we will discuss symptoms, health history, daily routines, school and activity demands, and treatment goals. The assessment may include observation of posture, breathing, mobility, strength, and movement.

Treatment is generally education- and exercise-based, with an emphasis on comfort, privacy, and consent. Follow-up care may continue through telehealth or include an in-home appointment near Apex, North Carolina, when additional assessment would be beneficial.

Telehealth appointments are available to patients located in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida. If your child is younger than 10, please reach out so we can discuss their needs and determine whether these services may be appropriate.
