Male Pelvic Health
Pelvic-floor concerns can affect men of all ages and may influence bladder and bowel control, sexual function, exercise, work, and everyday comfort. Pelvic-floor physical therapy provides private, individualized care to identify contributing factors, reduce symptoms, improve strength and coordination, and help you return to daily activities with greater confidence.
Concerns We Can Address
Physical therapy may help with pelvic, groin, abdominal, tailbone, or genital pain; urinary leakage; urgency or frequency; constipation; difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel; sexual dysfunction; and core weakness. Care may also address changes related to prostate treatment, prostatectomy, cancer care, or abdominal and pelvic surgery.
Symptoms can involve more than pelvic-floor strength. Your assessment may also consider muscle tension, breathing, abdominal pressure, posture, mobility, core coordination, toileting habits, and the physical demands of your daily activities.
How Physical Therapy May Help
Your individualized treatment plan may include education about pelvic-floor function, breathing and pressure-management strategies, pelvic-floor and core coordination, therapeutic exercise, relaxation techniques, bladder or bowel strategies, and modifications for work, exercise, or everyday movement.
Depending on your needs, treatment may focus on improving strength, reducing unnecessary muscle tension, restoring coordination, or gradually returning to exercise and other activities. The goal is to give you practical strategies and exercises that you can use independently at home.
What to Expect
All new patients begin with a private, one-on-one telehealth evaluation. During this visit, we will discuss your symptoms, medical and surgical history, daily activities, and goals; assess relevant movement and function; and develop a personalized treatment plan.
An internal pelvic-floor examination is never automatic or required. It is considered only when clinically appropriate and is performed only with your informed consent. Follow-up care may continue through telehealth or include an in-home appointment near Apex, North Carolina, when additional assessment or hands-on treatment would be beneficial.
Telehealth appointments are available to patients located in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida.
